Crime Control and Prevention District

Purpose

The Crime Control and Prevention District was created by Southlake voters in November 1997 and is funded through a half-cent sales tax on purchases made within the City. Its purpose is to raise money for capital purchases and other programs related to public safety in order to achieve the highest standards of safety and security, invest to provide and maintain high quality public assets, and optimize the use of technology. Crime Control and Prevention District funds have led to the installation of security cameras in Southlake Town Square, the acquisition of technological enhancements for the Department of Public Safety, and the construction of the new DPS Headquarters facility, all of which help the crime rate remain low and keep the quality of life high in Southlake.

Meetings

The Board meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month, at 6:30 p.m., at the DPS Headquarters building at 600 State Street.

Members

The district is governed by a board of directors composed of seven Southlake residents, with members appointed by the City Council for staggered two-year terms.
