Southlake Arts Council

Purpose

The Southlake Arts Council serves as an advisory board to the City Council on all matters relating to public art including visual art and performing art programs and facilities, the use of city funds for art projects and facilities, and the creation of a performing arts facility.

Programs

The Southlake Arts Council promotes art in the City of Southlake by supporting several art-related programs in the community each year.  These programs include Art in the Square, Call to Artists, an Arts Master Plan, and Public Art displays.

Art in the Square - This 3-day juried art festival is hosted annually by the Southlake Women's Club and is held in Southlake Town Square.  It is free to the public and brings 140 national and local artists, children's arts and crafts, on-going entertainment, headliner entertainment, and a food court for the citizens to enjoy.  The next scheduled dates for Art in the Square are April 15 - 17, 2011.

Call to Artists - This nationwide invitation brings the highest quality of art to Southlake as artists compete to propose unique pieces, which best reflect the spirit of Southlake.  The Arts Council reviews the submissions and makes recommendations to the City Council for pieces which are in alignment with City requirements and project goals.  Take the Public Art Survey to share your ideas on which style of art best captures the spirit of Southlake.

Arts Master Plan - This comprehensive plan sets goals and provides guidance for the development of public art in Southlake.  It will address the viability of a performing art facility, proposed visual art projects, and anticipated funding requirements.

Public Art Displays - Organizations that wish to publicly display art in the City, may contact the Southlake Arts Council for information and guidelines.

 Public Art Survey

The City is reviewing proposals submitted by nation-wide artists to create sculptures for the four roundabouts. Take the Public Art Survey to provide your comments on the art style that best reflects the sprit of Southlake.
