Pink Heals Tour a Great Success!
On Saturday, October 16th, 2010 the Pink Heals Tour came through Southlake on their journey and Southlake DPS was proud to participate in escorting them on their journey. DPS personnel were excited to help out in this exciting Breast Cancer Awareness Month activity and are glad to share our photos of the event.
Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery
Daylight-saving time ends Sunday, November 7, and marks the 23rd anniversary of the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® (CYCCYB) program, sponsored by Energizer and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, which reminds us to change and test the batteries in our smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. This message is simple and the habit can be lifesaving.
Southlake Fire Services reminds our residents that one easy step can help save their lives and the lives of those around them. Everyone is encouraged to use the extra hour they “gain” from daylight-saving time to change the batteries in their own smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, test the alarms and remind friends, family, neighbors and fellow community members to do the same. Visit the our Home Fire Information page for more information on Change Your Clock Change Your Battery.
"In honor of October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the overwhelming success of last year's Pink Week, Southlake DPS Fire Services members will be wearing their "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" T-shirts the remainder of the month of October" says Fire Chief Michael Starr.
These pink T-shirts are available to purchase through the Southalke DPS Fire Services office via the order form. We can even ship one to you for an additional cost. All proceeds are donated to Susan G. Komen For The Cure. Join us for this great awareness activity!
Tornado Safe Room Rebate Offered
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has provided a $400,000 grant to help Tarrant County residents build tornado safe rooms.
“Historically, we have seen that safe rooms save lives,” said Tarrant County Emergency Management Coordinator Melissa Patterson. “This program will reimburse a homeowner or developer for half the cost to install an individual safe room in an existing or planned home, up to $3,000.”
The safe room program will be administered locally through the Tarrant County Emergency Management Office (TCEMO). You can view the press release here. To obtain an application, call the TCEMO at 817-884-1804. For information on safe rooms, including construction plans and specifications, go to the FEMA information website.
Did you know that a sex offender restricted residency map is available? The map displays the restricted sites for sex offenders and their corresponding 2000-foot buffer zone. To view the map please visit the police services homepage.
